Bread Meats Bread Edinburgh Illustrated Restaurant Guide

Bread Meats Bread is one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. In fact it was actually the Glasgow branch of Bread Meats Bread where I first came across their wonderful food but I love their food. I love the burgers, their poutines and the sweet potato chips. They also make the awesome “luther burger” which is almost like a spicy french toast burger (if you can imagine that). So as part of my illustrated restaurant guide for Edinburgh this was one of the restaurants I have to include. So for my upcoming illustrated restaurant guide for Edinburgh this is one of the restaurants I just have to include.

Apart from illustrating, food and cooking are two of my biggest interest in life. My husband I like to explore new restaurants and we’re pretty adventurous with our food. It’s our joy of life. I love illustrating many different kinds of things and can certainly illustrate more than food but that’s what I’m really enjoying doing right now and have decided to mainly focus on. Illustrating food simply makes me happy.

For this illustrated restaurant guide project I will obviously choose restaurants, bakeries, cafes or whatever that I really like and want to introduce people to. All of the restaurants that I have included I have been to eat in and have taken photos inside for reference. I won’t just use online photos and illustrate a restaurant for the sake of it. I want to experience the food and atmosphere and I don’t think it’s fair for people to see my illustrations as recommendations for restaurants yet I haven’t been to them. I also like to build up a relationship with the things I want to illustrate. For example, if I want to illustrate a burger I want to know how it tastes, what it looks like and I want to smell it and feel the texture. Is the bun soft? Is the patty juicy? How is the cheese, bacon and sauce? By actually visiting the restaurant and eating their food I can better relate to what I’m illustrating and thus make the illustration more believable.

The first time I went to Bread Meats Bread was with my family when we visited Glasgow to do some shopping for my daughter. Back at that time there was no Bread Meats Bread in Edinburgh so my husband and I always had to drive all the way to Glasgow when we missed their luther burger and classic poutine. After the Edinburgh branch opened we thought we’d visit it all the time but my husband has yet to go but I’ve been there several times with friends. Every time we order food from them we always order a luther burger and classic poutine as they are so delicious. I tried one of their Black Label burgers in Glasgow but it was so long ago I don’t really remember how it tastes. But who knows, maybe Bread Meats Bread might commission me to do some illustrations for them then I can try some of their other burgers. That would be a real dream come true moment.

If you are interested in Bread Meats Bread then they have a Facebook page, Instagram page and of course their own website. I have to admit I’ve been drooling over their instagram page during the process of illustrating their food. I got the “Ultimate Wolf Burger” reference photo fro there and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. It’s an epic XXXL burger. I wouldn’t even know where to start if that burger was on my plate but it looks really good. It actually made me think about the TV show “Man vs Food” and their monster foods but I think this is just a special edition burger and not one of their regular burgers so if you try to order it and can’t don’t be too disappointed.

I had never heard of poutine before I visited Bread Meats Bread but I instantly fell in love with the classic poutine the first time I tried it. It’s chips (either regular or sweet) covered in gravy and topped off with cheese curds. I love the gravy and I love the chips (cheese depending on my mood can be a bit strong but it’s very good quality). So if you pop along to their restaurant, you must give their classic poutine a go, you won’t be disappointed.

My next illustrated restaurant will be based on my favourite Korean BBQ restaurant called “One Gie” so stay tuned. Korean BBQ is quite rare in the UK but it’s incredibly delicious and it’s a restaurant I constantly pine to go to. I’ve also got a few other restaurants planned.
