As with the first cookbook we were given several months to create all the content for the book and as with the first it was published in Singapore and for the Far East market in general first, then it progressively released westwards, first in the UK and Europe and then finally in the USA. So even though the book has been available for sale for some eight months I wanted to wait until it was on sale everywhere that it was to be released before writing an article about it.
The style and format of this book is the same as my “Home Style Taiwanese Cooking” cookbook. This cookbook contains 60 of my favourite delicious and completely authentic Chinese recipes. Yeah yeah yeah, I hear you saying “yeah right, another authentic Chinese book, don’t believe that!” but I was born and raised in Taiwan and both sides of my grandparents, who effectively raised me and cooked for me almost every day for 20 years are Chinese. So I grew up with the most delicious and completely authentic Chinese food. While I really love Far Eastern (Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese/Korean etc) food my fondest foods are home cooked foods. I love eating restaurant food as much as anyone but I love “food the grandma or grandpa” cooked the most.
All of the ingredients in this book can easily be bought from either your local supermarket or a Chinese supermarket. I had to omit many recipes because the ingredients simply can’t be bought in at least the UK but all of the recipes included in this book can be easily bought almost anywhere. So if one of your reasons for not cooking Chinese food at home is because you’re afraid of exotic ingredients, don’t worry, because you can find all of the ingredients in this book with little hassle.
As a former chef (fine dining, not pub or takeaway) I like to write my recipe procedures very clearly and in order. I believe my recipes are quite easy to follow. Some cookbooks have few photos while some are hard to follow. I don’t want my readers feeling like they’re reading a never ending story of 800 page novel so I’ve made everything as simple as possible to follow and also fun to look at. I want to write cookbooks that make everyone enjoy cooking and enjoy the food I love.
You can purchase this book, and indeed all the books I have published, from Amazon, the Book Depository and other online bookstores. If you are looking for an authentic Chinese cookbook then I hope you will give my cookbook a chance. If you already own a copy of my cookbook and you like (well, hopefully love) it please share news of my cookbook with your friends and family. It’s very tough nowadays to be an author and especially with a published who’s terrible at promoting your books. So I have to promote my books myself. Sadly I’m not rich nor do I have thousands of friends or family to buy my books, but if you do like my recipes or illustrates please grab a copy of any of my books.
