Making Cocoa Book Cover and Endpaper Design
January 21, 2014

This is my latest book cover design for a poem collection called “Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis”. I always enjoy designing book covers as you always have a perfect excuse for reading a book and you don’t feel guilty about it. As you can imagine with a young child and work I really don’t get time to read books but this time it’s part of the job and it’s always a pleasure.

Designing book covers are fun but they can also be quite challenging. You have to introduce the book in a single illustration but you also have to make the book cover aesthetically appealing to everyone. You want someone to see this book and make them want to buy the book. But with covers you’re not allowed to give too much of the story away in case you accidentally leak the best part of the book to the reader before they even open the book. I think it’s pretty tricky but it’s always exciting.

In general, I really enjoy the process of designing book covers. To date I’ve been asked to create a few cover designs and look forward to creating more in the future.
