Mid September 2016 I was contacted by Snapchat to see if I would be interested in creating a series of geofilters and stickers for their application. We’ve all seen their filters on their mobile application and a new thing they are doing is geofilters. The idea behind geofilters is locals load Snapchat and it brings up a graphic based on their location and something local to them. So I’m working on both.
My first country with them is France which you can see below. I’ve displayed many of the geofilters and stickers I did for them and at the bottom I’ve done some mockups to show what they will look like on mobile phones.
My second country, which I have just about finished, is Australia and I created well over a hundred geofilters and stickers for them and I’m now about to start the UK.
This is the first a large series of geofilters and stickers that I’ll be designing and illustrating for Snapchat. I was tasked with French speaking people. There are 29 countries that speak French natively (wow!) and the idea is people from these countries use Snapchat and when they do it brings up something French and related to them.
It’s been an interesting and fun process discovering what people like to do locally but so far I’ve created around 70 geofilters with another 30 to go in the initial batch and then possibly more after that.
I used the fabulous Unsplash website for pictures of people and of course all the graphics are mine. I was given free reign to do whatever I wanted so I kept everything light, colourful and fun. Basically my style. This is easily my biggest client to date and so far they’ve been absolutely wonderful to work with. I supply work, they pay me immediately. Wonderful!
