One good thing about this assignment is I got a chance to practice my hand lettering and design. That was fun but it takes a lot of time to do. If you follow my blog you know I have never done any hand lettering before I started Lilla Roger’s course so it’s a very new skill for me. But learning and using hand lettering on my illustrations has been wonderful. I feel hand lettering has my illustration a more personal feel. So I’m very happy with that.
Back to my official assignment, we have been given quote from Gertrude Jekyll to illustrate and combine “Rose” to create a journal cover. For people don’t know her, she is a famous British garden designer. I choose a short quote to illustrate because I wanted to leave more space for my illustration. I started illustrating some roses and then illustrated other flowers, leaves and rose hips to accompany the rose.
After that I just used the flowers I illustrated to place on the final file and left the middle area for my text. Then you can see the final outcome for my rose journal cover. I created different mockups to show people what my rose journal illustration will look like on an actual product.
So this is my Rose Journal Cover Illustration. As usual, I like to use my illustrations for different purposes so I used the rose flowers illustrations I created for this project to create a couple different patterns. You can see a backpack mockup I created from the rose pattern I illustrated which I think is very feminine and beautiful. I would carry that backpack myself. Hopefully I will feel much more connected with my June assignment but so far I have good vibe, so stay tuned!
