These Snapchat UK geofilter stickers are the third project I’ve worked on with Snapchat. I completed this project a few months ago and these snapchat stickers and geofilters are focused on “Events and Holidays” in the UK. I had great fun creating these, just as with all the other Snapchat filters. I used more hand lettering for this batch because some of the holidays, for example May Day or October bank holiday, are quite hard to illustrate. So for these I decided hand lettering would be much more fun.

I’ve learnt about so many new holidays in the UK from doing this project. I had never heard of St. David’s Da, Shakespear Day, Sherlock Holmes Day etc. I had to some research for each holiday before designing and illustrating the filters and that was a very interesting part of this project. I love working as an illustrator because a big part of our job is researching our briefs and anything related to our brief. You can learn so much through research and every time you complete a project you feel like you have gained more than just money. You often feel like you have been to learn something cool and interesting. How awesome is that.

For this project I tried to use different colour palette as British people don’t seem to like things that are too happy or too colourful. This is what I have experienced when working and studying here. When I studied at university I was always told my work is “too happy, too colourful and too cute”. I’ve had some clients in the UK and they always want me to use colours that are more mdi tone or mid century colours, which is fine but my foreign clients, especially from the US, Germany and Taiwan love lots of colours.
